Article from 1997 by Ariel Meadow Stallings (from offbeat empire and hooping.org) about West Coast dance events.
New blog post. It’s all about hooping styles and what not, plus videos from some of our favorite hoopers out there with some fabulous styles.
I enjoyed the blog post. I do appreciate the idea of figuring out one’s personal movement style by breaking down what you like about another’s style; this applies to movement art, whether it’s dance, aerial, hoop, juggling, etc.
My own personal style has yet to be completely pinpointed but I do see where it’s going. It’s informed by my past and present dance experience (grace, intention, expression), aerial dance (beauty in stillness and strength), acrobatics, rhythmic gymnastics (prop manipulation with dance and acro — yes!) juggling (speed, tricks and numbers are actually quite fun once I let go of my self-imposed stigma), my circus-folk friends (especially cigar box juggler extraordinaire J., who has been instrumental in my artistic progression) and certain books, movies and bands. I rather excited to see where this leads me in the coming years :)
